Look away Cab at this point I have tried to take the bottom of some demijohns using the cold wter and boiling water method. NOw although this has worked many times on some lovely jugs I used to own ( ) it hasn't worked with the demijohns or large jamjars. Any ideas why not? I prefer the sound of this method - slightly less hazardous than using dipped string etc.

It's a message that you should be using them for something else....

Perhaps the cold water isn't cold enough, try adding ice cubes. I also wonder if some djs are tougher than others?

Thing is I probably will end up using them for wine if they won't split for me - and I had not intentions of doing so at all - following no success at all in the past and giving away all the equipment - but I couldn't just have them sitting there doing nothing Ice cubes ice cubes

I should say pouring hot and cold water on your jugs wouldn't do them any good whatsoever.

Oh - sorry - you mean ... er, ok I'll get my coat -
