Just came back with a pocket full of cones. We often collect them from the road side as the make good firelighters when dry.

Anyone else have any uses for them?

fantastic firelighters, or spray them gold/silver/snowy (or not) and put them on the chistmas tree. Or scent them with essential oil and put them in bowls as pot pourri.

I think you can dunk them in fat and put them out for the birds, you coul probably wind fur onto them for the birdies too.

I've seen them stuck into oasis pyramids to make a table centrepiece - they had added candles, but given their firelightinh abilities, I don't think that that was a great idea!

Cones (not sure if it applies to all, or which) can be used to forecast the weather, closed is damp, open dry. For more weather lore see

Oh, and you can grow conifers from them

If you dip the extreme outer edges of each part of the cone in wax (ie old, melted candle stubs), they make even better fire-lighters.

Gosh, I remember collecting pinecones for my Grandma and Grandad to use as firelighters. I also remember them teaching me how to roll, then fold, sheets of newspaper for the same purpose.

If you found a really resiny cone, or maybe put a handful of green ones into a dish, perhaps you could use them as air-fresheners!
