On Friday someone picked up from me via freecycle a PC ATX tower case with motherboard, cpu, memory and cricially a 300watt PSU.

On Saturday I tried to repair another PC and came to the belated realisation that the PSU was shot and I needed.... a 300watt PSU.

So I put out a plea on freecycle and this morning picked up from someone else a 300watt PSU and have repaired the PC.

I love the way that on freecycle rather than things sitting in cupboards for years in the packrat belief you might find a use for them, you can operate in a "collective" where things are getting used in the here and now

good stuff. i just gave away a blender, covered litter box, and an old sewing machine cabinet on a wrought iron stand. the lady who took our blender invited us over for crushed ice drinks, lol.

all recycled and saved a trip to the landfill.

Jema I haven't a clue what it is you're talking about in most of your message, but I sympathise with the sentiment about being in a pack of rats. That sums up my life nicely

Not really freecycle, but this evening I went to my weekly pub quiz league and came home with a knitting machine

Haven't a clue what to do (hopefuly Steve will work it out) but it'll be fun trying

I gave away, last year, an exerciser cycle cum cross ski thingy, very bulky and awkward to handle. Glad to get rid of it.
The man who collected the machine (in a van) barely said thank you.
A few weeks later I saw it for sale (£50) in the local newspaper.
I can't be sure it was the same machine, but this is a small town.
With all the E-Bayers and booters out there, how can you be sure you are not dealing with traders.

You cannot, but you can choose who to give stuff to, and in a way if you are prepared to give it away does it matter that much anyway? One way or another it goes from scrap to being used

Yeah. The bloke in the van was helping the environment. It's just that he charges for the service

Yes, you're probably right, it didn't help that I had no bites when putting £25 on it.

yeah -the main drawback with a reseller is that they might not have any more succes resellign than you and then dump it!

freecycle rules are that if you post a WANTED you have to declare if you are reseller
If respond to an OFFERED post you must declare you are a reseller if asked by th eperson offering. It is the offering persons responsibility to ask the question!
It is only fair to do this before someone comes to collect though!

Some peole just want to get rid of stuff without dumping, others want to help needy people while doing this, others like to give to charities first. Freecycle can't police this - its up to you
