Perhaps some of you don't like slugs, but ever since I read about the mating habits of this one (when I was at school) I have hoped to see it. Just my luck that I should spot this couple getting it together from my front door frame on an evening when I really needed to have an early night for an early start next morning. Took a couple of snaps then had to leave them to it.
You can read all about it on line - look up Limax maximus. They normallly 'do it' dangling from trees (how athletic! ).

good snap, amazing critters but as you suspected i dont like em to the point where genocide seems reasonable (only where i grow veg, anywhere else the slimey hoard are delightful)
the dangling thing is rather clever and well worth looking out for. |

It certainly is. I'm not sure why these two decided on my door frame - it's not as if I don't have lots of trees. Maybe the moment just arrived! I was surprised that there was no residue the next morning. They must re-absorb the slime rope and the fixing point, I assume. I wish I had had more time to look at the spectacle.

I wish they would absorb the slime elsewhere! Good picture Buzzy, and amazing to see it. |

I hadn't known how they did the deed until I saw this clip years ago
