I am feeling somewhat stupid here, but it is not just me, I know my brother has been doing the same

but anyway for the last couple of years when going to the dump in Swindon. I have always had "General waste" to dump, as well as stuff to recycle and the dump has always had catagorised skips for recycling.

In making the journey I have driven past a newish recycling centre on the grounds that I was dumping stuff as well as wanting to use recycle bins, or whatever might be there.

Just now having accummilated a car load of cardboard, I went to the recycling centre only to find, that it is in fact a fully operational dump

I wonder just how many others are passing the place by because of the politically correct signposts?

To rub salt into the wound the household recycling centre is at the bottom of the main road that both Jema and I have to use to get anywhere in town. Poor guys must have driven past almost daily.

Cheltenham's signs use to say 'Civic Amenity Centre' most people didn't know that that meant the recycling place, bless its little cotton pretentious socks!

Probably doesn't say that now - just in case I've offended someone!

The one I have most trouble getting my tongue around is 'residual limb' for amputees (we're not allowed to say stump, which I can understand, but it's such a mouthfull when your trying to give people quick instructions!

Same with 'affected side' for stroke victims - again I don't like bad side, myself, but it's such a mouthful! I end up just saying left and right!

I'm currently renovating an oldish house so have a fair bit to take to the 'recycling centre'

At least when I get there there are areas for plant material, metal, rubble, oil, paper, clothes and a general skip.

I tend to sort everything out and have a chat to the people there and ask them where they want the stuff put (this surprises them as most people treat them like dirt ).

Mind you, when I look in the general skip there is often plant material, metal, rubble, oil, paper, clothes. They need to have a skip to shove these people into.

If you're nice to our guys and girls they help you carry it out. My young lady on the paper collection waits for me because I always say please and thank you

People are soo rude these days - a little politness (even if it is only please and thank you, which I think of as minimal!) goes a long way.

A smile costs nothing

When people are rude to shop assistants and other people they deem "menial" I tend to wonder how pathetic their lives must be, if they need to swell their oppressed little egos in that fashion

Do you notice the closer it gets to christmas the ruder people become.
I nearly bit the fingertips off three customers at work today, because they thought the best way of getting my attention was to poke me

I put up with most things with a smile, albeit false , but I can't stand people calling me oi and poking me

I don't any more, because I don't work in retail any more. And I'm always polite to shop staff, unless I think they aren't trying....

I always buy our tip lads a box of really posh biscuits for Christmas time. Ditto the coal man, bin men, recycling men. The post man gets someing else..............
I have a lot of respect for people who do these jobs, not meant in a patronising way at all. After all, they are all helping me to live my life in the way that I choose to.

I generally find being nice to people gets better service anyway - I'm always nice to people who are nice to me - especially when I've had a lot of really grotty patients in one day - it's the ones who try that you do your damndest for. I've always wondered how sad peoples lives must be if they are in such a hurry that have to drive like pratts or poke people! I want a business card that says 'enjoy your heart attack. Cardiac rehabiliation provided by W Womble. £50 per hour. Call to book.' or something to give people who are rude! and to put in the back of the car!
