TSUNAMI RISK TO UK - GOVERNMENT PUBLISHES ASSESSMENT
A scientific report commissioned by Defra to assess the risk of tsunami impact on the UK is published today.
The report has confirmed that whilst the tsunami threat is very rare, events in the UK's history mean it cannot be discounted completely.
It also concludes that the wave heights produced would be unlikely to exceed those of storm surges, against which all major centres of development in coasts and estuaries have existing defences.
