Is it significantly better that Windows 7? Enough to be worth paying for? |

HL you don't need to pay for it. You can still find it for free out there. You need to be looking for the media creation tool and maybe being a bit flexible on what you consider your "accessibility needs" are.
Personally I find it a pain in the bum to navigate though. I'm sure it works fine on a tablet but for a PC it's plop. Never had any stability issues with it though. I do prefer Windows 7. |

I may be wrong, but I think you can only get it free as an upgrade.

I've barely looked at it, but that is the impression I got also. |

I don't notice any real differences from Win 7
(as a casual user)
Can be somewhat tricky to find things sometimes, but not overly |

Yes you are correct there but if you are buying a copy because you need one, then I'd say buy W10 over W7.
Windows 7 support ends on 14th January 2020 so you have a while to decide yet. |

I'm surprised you haven't been automatically upgraded!

NB I used the word "upgrade" in its loosest possible sense.

I think they tried...
I've re-installed since then though. |

That's cheating! Don't be surprised if you have a visit from the Microsoft Police!

the last MS op i rather liked was W98 sp 2
oddly stable for a pile of rubble
XP had a few nice features but many faults, since then MS stuff has seemed over complex unfinished bloatware that requires patch after patch and secondary security to bloat it further
unless you need to use stuff that is only compatible with windows or a mac linux is far better as a day to day os. |

I'm generally happy enough with Linux, but this one is not for me... |
