After trying to find a suitable timber framed bed without success I'm now contemplating making one. Most of the joints these days are only held together by bolts and I could sketch out a design by looking at a few in the shops, but I would also like to find a more traditional design to see how difficult it would be to make a decent bed with proper joints etc. There are also several other pieces of furniture we could do with if the bed turned out ok.

Does anyone know of any sites that have simple free woodworking plans? Failing that are there any decent woodworking books that would be worth takeing a look at?

I'd imagine sending Bugs to the library might be a good idea here, if not in general!

I find with woodworking it's easier to get someone to do it for me, as the kit involved is more expensive that hiring someone who already has it - plus I'm not good a straight lines!

That's a problem I have although having an electric mitre saw that can handle large wood sizes should mean I can cope with a bed frame.

Thanks for the link Simon, I'll take a look tonight.

All four google ads on the left are for woodworking plans or bed plans - doesn't mention the F word, though!

Which one? Form? Function? Finish? Fit-for-purpose?
