You can start the following in the greenhouse now chillis toms leeks seed onions peas (bit risky and you'll have to fleese once you plant out) garlic (get's a good start if you're late) cabbage (only a few every other week) lettace (same as cabbage) early carrots will grow in the border

Yes, I think I'll get the small propogator down form the loft and pop in on our only south facing windowsill today. We'll just plant a few seeds in as many small square pots as we gan get in. Toms and chillis today.

And there was bugs resisting so well! If you get something white or a mirrored (foil) surface behind them, you don't have to remember to turn them so often. I use a polystyrene lid from my meat boxes (ever such usefull things, meat boxes!)

It does look a bit daft from the outside though, so expect the neighbours to give you a few funnier looks than usual!

Does anyone else get mould in their propagators? Last year I watered with dilute chamomile tea and left the lid off which helped a bit, but defeats the object of a lid a bit. Also don't use mushroom trays as seed trays without disinfecting them!

Been a bit late coming to this thread but I'm planting gooseberries blueberries grapevine As well as the usual: Chillis Peppers Potatos Garlic Parsnips Leeks Carrots Spinach Courgettes French Beans Orach Tomatos Swedes Also growing Fat Hen this year

Thanks peeps for the ideas. I went on a big shop today, bought greenhouse heater with parafin, compost, bucket of chicken shit, some flower seedlings, parsnip seed, seed potatoes, onion sets. Start work on it tomorrow! Tahir, what's Orach?

It's funny you should say that, she gave me my name here. We call her Treacodactyl. Her name is Treacle and she has a few too many similarities to the dinosaurs.

it said in country smallholding this month that they have now decoded (or whatever) the chicken genome at a cost of 10 million pounds and have found a number of similarities to the dinosaur, and can now create a whole new range of GM chickens. So it wasn't a waste of money at all then!

May give it a go this year as the spinach we've tried tends to bolt too easily.

It bolts too in dry conditions, but you can cut it virtually to the ground and it shoots up again. There are lots of colours available, i generally grow red, a very striking plant.

I'll have a dig around I saved seed this year, got loads if I can find it (fat hen too)
