I keep reading about these as a good way of getting second hand equipment, but can't find any. I've googled it but only find auctioneers in the west - I think travelling that far would defeat the object. Anyone know how I could find out about sales in East Anglia.

Around here they are announced in the local paper, usually at the end of all the estate agenty stuff.

Here, they are handled by the estate agents, and the people who run the cattle markets.

Have a word with one of them. They'll know, even if it's not them. OUrs are also listed in the farming bit of the local rag. And, yes, they are GREAT for picking up bargains, as long as you're prepared to take bigger lots than you wanted, or rusty versions, or stand around for two hours until your lot comes up, or whatever.

Ho hum - I don't really want to buy the local paper just in case there is a sale advert. I'll have to have a sneaky look in the supermarket

Try a Google for agricultural estate agents websitesin your area, we are able to get farm sales catalogues downloaded from the ones around here. Autumn is usually the best time of the year for farm sales.

Your local library will have the paper.

The Farmers Guardian is the best bet.

They are good for furniture sometimes as well. Irresistable but quite often a little sad.

If it's East Anglia you want then quite a few of the dispersal sales are run by Cheffins in Cambridge.......contact their office or look on their web site for further details.

As well as Cheffins another good to look out for is Lacy Scott and Knight.....I've been to three or so in the last year. www.lsk.co.uk

But you may not see any until the spring.

Might be the best 60p you've ever invested, if it takes you to that new mower/tractor/feed bucket, however.

I've had some wonderful bargains from farm sales. Excellent value for wheeled hay racks; buckets/water butts; hurdles, etc.
I even had a good deal on windows and doors for my new extension
You do sometimes have to go to a couple, though, to find exactly what you are looking for.
Estate agents are the best contact, if you do not want to buy the local paper, although, as Nick says, it could be the best 60p that you spend.
