I need a reminder on the first Monday of every month, how do I do it? I can set up recurring tasks but not their corresponding reminders. If I can't do it in Outlook how else can I?

I thought that if you got a reminder on the first task, then you'd get one on them all?

And won't the clinic phone you if you miss the apointment?

Set the task, then open the task record.
In the top menu you get a "Recurrence..." option that opens a dialogue box where you can set all the details.

Or of course a desk calendar. Or a paper diary.

but a desk calendar or a paper diary wouldn't send you an email or an sms to remind you of the thing you need to do nor would it fill out the entries for all months for perpetuity

Which is indeed a fair point

a google calendar might not need to replace outlook though, there are alsorts of import/export options but changing which programs/utilities you use can be a real pain in the ass

I would second the google calendar vote TBH. If you make an 'iGoogle' personalised homepage you can add it as a widget (so many widgets so little time) and then your calendar can be with you wherever you go so long as you can find a computer which is online..

As long as you trust Google to secure your calender.

Most companies ban it's use. When RIM first came to market we had a devil of a job to sell it into the corp space. I guess thinks in IT never change.
