jema - it did occur to me after I sent the link that you share the same home. I did let someone else have a copy anyway. You should have the link now, I sorted the problem - a little oversight on my part when copying the email addy

Helen - was that 'Off Grid Living' by Nick Rosen?

Yes - a copy, um, found its way into my basket (along with The Glorious Book for Girls)... I'm not suposed to be buying books atm, but I couldn't pass up on one that had so many familiar names in it...

Hi Judy (otw)

Welcome back again. We'd been wondering where you'd been hiding. How applicable would your book be to folk residing in France, Europe, ROTW? Is it mainly UK based foraging?

Hi Simon, thanks for 'welcome back'.
The cards are, in their present version, UK orientated, but that is mostly related to the calendar, which is only a rough guide anyway, as there are regional variations even within the UK and climatic quirks. Names are the other main difference. But to accomodate as wide a region as possible, the list of 360-ish plants are listed with the botanical name first, and there is an English common name to Latin conversion list. The list, which you can download free in A4 format, does not give details on when the plants can be harvested, thoguh it will tell you other essential info like part used, whether it needs cooking and any caution note. Timing and more is given for 52 plants, many weeds or very common plants, and mostly plants which grow almost throughout the temperate northern hemisphere. I am planning a US version, but meanwhile anyone from the US can use the free US lists on my site (English - Latin) to get the name used in the UK version. Anyone with a fieldguide in any language can also get the botanical name to look up the plant for basic information, or get the English name to find it amongst the 52 plants described in detail. I compiled the US list from plants contained in the USDA database of plants growing in the US, but only those which also grow in the UK (almost all the plants on the UK list, actually). I have also used a Herbal book, originally written in France and one in Germany, and found many of the plants growing in all countries. Die difference is more likely to be of omission, i.e. there will be plants growing in France or elsewhere, which are not on the UK list, as they don't grow in this country. Still, the overlap is considerable.

Thanks Judy

The 'overlap' is what I was questioning rather than the terminology. I'm sure that most people making the effort to forage in the first place will be happy to extend the effort to knowing (or having at their disposal) the botanical references.
