This might sound a bit weird, but here goes anyway: is java still used and secondly, I have a couple of tomes which had to be purchased for a course a million years ago - question is, are they still relevant *today?* Knowing the answer to this will determine if I keep them as doorstops or where I recycle them.

"Database systems: A practical approach to design, implementation and management" by: Thomas Connolly & Carolyn Begg (1999)

"Compuer Networks: 3rd edition" - Andrew Tanenbaum

Tannenbaum is a classic - mines in a box somewhere so not sure about the edition.

I dont know that dbase book.

Java is still overused. They change loads of it round every other week though so depends what you have/want how long ago etc.

are we talking ejb/pre-swing/orbs/????

Ah. Well, of the java books one is by Lewis & Loftus and one is In A Nutshell series; also, The Idiot's Guide To Java. It says on their spines java 1.2 so I guess if they keep changing it they are outdated for today.

I think I'll keep the Tanenbaum and recycle the rest.

Thanks muchly!

Java - yes, definitely, I'm working on a major Java based project.

Databases - a skilled business. My projects only touch the surface; there are other database gurus on here that know far more than I.

Computer networking - no particular view of the Tanenbaum book, I'm a Stevens user myself...
