Every year I have poor success germinating aubergine and pepper seeds.I wonder has anyone any tips to improve my rate of success

Hmm...I haven't really had any problems with peppers germinating, but I do find a stint in a heated propogator to get them started speeds things up a little, might be worth a try. Just till they come through though, they get really leggy if you keep them in there and then forget about them

I always stick a plastic bag over mine, sown two seeds to a pot - watered when the seeds have gone in and not again until the bag comes off (condensation off the bag keeps the compost moist) and then thin out the strongest seedling to grow on once germinated

Yes, I agree with heat (well warm kitchen windowsill in my case) and putting a plastic bag over them till they've germinated.
