I put my name down 6 months ago and was told then that I would have a 2 year wait (being 21st on the list) I might phone the lady up again and check where I am now on the list.

I walk past the lotties everyday on the way to work and I always have a little look to see whether there is any hope .....

One plot has a plastic green house that blew down several weeks ago and it hasn't been sorted out so that person can't be looking after their plot, can they?!

Horray, I have had a call from the allotment lady - there will be one available for me in January, so that willbe 14 months between putting my name down and getting a plot.

I am so excited, Mr G is going to sort me out a fabulous shed (so he tells me) and I am gathering together appropriate tools (got a beuatiful old spade, fork, rake and hoe for my birthday) and equipment and plenty of ideas.

We waited a year for ours from putting our name down - we worked our way up from being no 20 on the list. The council have divided most new lets into half plots which is what we have - and that's about right for us as we also have a fairly big garden. We were lucky to get in when we did - interest has soared over the last 18 months, the site of over 100 plots is currently fully used, and I've heard that another local allotment site has currently closed its waiting list.

A plot has come up earlier than expected and yesterday I picked up the keys. The old boy who has it at the moment is downsizing to a half plot due to ill health and has let us take over now rather than in january. He has a few potatoes, leeks and butternut squashes that he wants to harvest but he says we can make use of the bare bits now rather than let it get weedy.

It's 100ft by 20ft, with a leaning shed that needs to be replaced, loads of composting area, soft fruit bushes and strwberry plants.

So I have actually got my allotment less than a year after I out my name down!!

Hooray here as well. I've just been told I should get a plot in the next few weeks. (Which also means I can get enough timber to make up compost bins without having to pay for delivery, which also means I can get the timber to various other jobs around here which also means I will have to do those jobs which also means I won't have time to get to the plot)

We got together (in East Sussex) a group of locals all wanting one, found a willing farmer who was happy to turn over a corner of his land, and was even prepared to help us run water to the site (good bloke!!)
Then we went to the local council and presented it to them as a potential site which they agreed to. After 6 months we had just settled everything, when the sale of our house went through! Fortunately our buyer took it over from us .
Well done those of you who have been waiting!

I've finally made it to the top of the list too. My new plot has apple trees on it.
