Right, I'm after some advice. I'm likely to have some spare time over the next couple of weeks and fancied a bash at a bit of sea fishing. I will probably head down to Hastings and fish from the beach. In terms of tide, when is the best time to beach fish. Starting a couple of hours before high tide?

When we went down to Seaford (just round the corner from Hastings) it seemed a high tide and mid afternoon had plenty of mackerel and garfish about. Sadly lst year we spent most of our time watching others pull them out but at least it showed they were about.

Okay Drewsephine where is the beach? Looks lovely.

You did better than us last night. Spent an hour at Port Gaverne - not a bite, and it as cold. Th other folk round us also were unlucky.

Seriously disappointing night.

Place called Blackpool Sands near start point. I also went a bit further down as the coast that way is awesome if you can avoid the tourists

Wasnt cold but then only stayed till about 10.30 ish. I think I did better than most of the other people but then I was casting quite a long way out

Been out last two nights - last night caught about 8 al mackerel, night before 6 mackerel and 4 Spanish Mackerel. All just as tide reached high tide. Hve to stop fishing at 8.30 to get home to shut up the chickens. Tide will be too late tonight so need to wait a few days. Using little pink rubber prawn things with bits of tinsel on them and a kids rod.

Yep - basic rule is if you are not going to take them for eating or bait dont touch them with your bare hands or you will damage their skin and they will die within hours. Shake them off the hook or carefully unhook using a cloth soaked in sea water.

Wonder when they will start turning up here on west coast of Wales? Used to start earlier than this off Anglesey shore but its been a very cold winter and the water down here is shallower so expecting to hit the first ones around late April early May here.
