John has just been given a blacksmithing job by a local hotelier. He bought a house just south west of Bergerac (France)a couple of years back. of course they got talking and apparently prices are at a record low at present.

Im even more keen to get there in less than a fortnight.

I've come to the conclusion over the years that the more different countries you live in, the more you realise how great a country the UK is. The problems that people have with the place are nothing compared to some of the issues out in the big world, believe me.

I wholeheartedly agree, although this weather is REALLY getting tedious.

Somewhere in Mid Wales, near a sea trout river, but high enough above sea level for when the ice caps melt.

Yes, well, Lincs not such an obvious location when considering melting ice caps. But I did quite a bit of reading on sea level rises when writing a children's book set in future, more watery world; and came to the conclusion that, though pretty scary and frustrating in terms of what we are doing to the planet, the big rises will take a while, so think I can sit it out here at about 10 metres above sea level for my lifetime (being already some years past 50) though might need to help grandchildren pack their bags for Welsh hills sometime before that!

etc etc

I emigrated from Wales to Scotland.

I've been to a few places in Europe, language would be no problem.
Obviously having enjoyed our trip there, NZ would be very attractive if it were possible.

Quite a few Brits don't stick it in NZ (and possibly Australia) as they assume the English spoken , the attitudes to life, the ways of doing things and everything will be the same as they've left.....

they're not willing to "muck in" and share

I've lived in Australia and Germany. Both had there good points.
I've always fancied moving to the Ozarks - a big chunk of land and very few restrictions compared to here.
