Having just spent the last half hour struggling to cut out some cloth shapes for tree decorations with some very blunt scissors, could somebody recommend me a good make of dressmaking scissors.?I used to have some good ones once until OH decided to cut turf with them!

There are long debates on this. https://forum.downsizer.net/about44331.html&highlight=scissors

I hide mine. Everyone knows however that they are for fabric only and not to be used for anything else EVER!

Fiskars every time, they are not the cheapest scissors, but I swear by them, I have several pairs(various sizes and uses) and all have lasted years - in fact the one pair is still great and I bought them for college in 1997.
I have been a seamstress for 10+years now so all my scissors have seen heavy usage, cutting everything from silk to velvet to wool to more modern fabrics - can't recommend them highly enough

Fiskars or Zwillings.... I've always used the latter on fabric.

Thanks very much everybody. I love this place - you always get a quick, useful response!
I think I'll have to wait till after Christmas now but I'm looking forward to having proper equipment again.

I have Zwillings, and what Cathryn said. Don't let them get used for anything else ever

being left-handed I like these - I have 2 pairs - One for crafts and one for dress-making

I have Fiskars too, my younger brother gave them to me for my 21st,
ummm 20+ years ago. I think they've only been sharpened once and are still brilliant.
