Where do people typically get their jam jars from? I am trying to find an affordable supplier for 3 dozen or so 1lb jars. Ideas? J

I see you're in Kent. Have a look at Freeman & Harding https://www.freemanharding.co.uk/index.htm. They're in Erith so I get the in laws to bring me a supply when they come to visit!

1) Any jar will do, I have found.

2) "1 lb jar" - tomato sauce comes in 500gm jars, which holds about 1lb 4oz of jam. The original lids last for years when used with jam, about 1 year when used for chutney.

As Bodrighy says: try freecycle (or freegle as we up to date types call it).

perlogalism I have lots and lots of 1lb jars if you ever need any, I have about 4-5 a week and can't throw them out, getting round to freecycling them at some point before they take over I'm near Welshpool too! Sorry you aren't nearer quixoticgeek, or I could give you 3 dozen, no problem.

Try www.colouredbottles.co.uk They are based in Walderslade near Chatham and do a very good reange of glass food jars.

Ask a local beekeeper to sell you some honey jars. They usually buy them by the gross through their local associations.

Lakeland sell both 1lb and 8oz in boxes of 12, lids need to be bought separately. Don't know how much they cost but you could look on their web site.

Cultivate a friend who's husband is French and will only buy Bon Maman when they are over in France, but who doesn't make jam and doesn't have storage. Then go to visit and take them all off their hands...

I get mine from here as well and they are only 20 mins down the road to me so if anyone wants to buy and get me to be the first point in a DS courier service let me know, I have no problem picking them up and storing them for a while or delivering if im off in whatever direction they need to go.
