It's a shame, isn't it? Because, in my experience, once growing they fruit like mad and don't mind a drought. No having to spray the plants to get the beans to "set" ...

My Bridgwater beans are climbing well now probably means we won't like them

Spray them with water. Runner beans don't set unless they've had a shower. Or so the old timers told me years ago!
