I decided to turn my car around in a different layby today and noticed something white in the field......i had a look and it was a huge Puffball (there are a few immature ones there too.

It weighed in at just over 14 1/2 pounds and is in perfect condition I will post a picture later

Here is a photo showing the size - it is on a standard roses tin !

Just has a trip down to the field and there is a circle of puffballs - at least another 4

That is most impressive. Our old family nursery had hundreds of these throughout the glashouse ranges. We used to chop them into small cubes and fry them to go with our big weekend brekkies. Gorgeous! I used to play football with the ripe ones to spread the spores for future crops. Did you know the spores were used as smoke to calm honey bees back in the day? Pufballs rule.

Here's another giant ! Couldn't weigh this one though but it is on the same tin as the 14 1/2 pounder so would estimate that it is close to 25 20 pounds

It's just a shame that the nettles growing over it have caused it to deform rather than grow in a large ball - they have also caused it to go a manky green / yellow.....inside was perfect though

At Borough Market they sell slices of puffball for about £3 or £4 for 100g - if 25lbs is 11.36kg, your puffball could sell for between £340 and £454
