Just finished this and thought I'd show it off a bit. The pattern is based on an original one from 1840, when pineapple shaped reticules were all the rage in the Regency period. This one is in pure silk yarn, knit on 2mm needles, and although its not a complicated pattern, it did take a fair while to do, I reckon there was around 25 hours work went into this.

It's lovely, and that, but does it do anything? I mean, can it be fashioned as a hat, or open to be a purse? Or even used to carry a pineapple in? Looks like a lot of work, and it made me smile.

Its a handbag. Surely everyone needs a handbag shaped like a pineapple Can't you just see yourself taking your sandwiches to the allotment in one of these?

Its available here as the original text and a modernisation, but beware if you use this version there are some very odd idiosyncracies that will need ironing out as you go along, the modernisation as written has lost something in translation and is fine as a rough guideline, but a bit unsatisfactory if follewed word for word

I am as likely to knit a pineapple shaped handbag as I am to go to an allotment, that's for sure.

That is just so fantastic Sally. What women wouldn't want a pineapple shaped reticule?

That is truly awesome, you should be chuffed!

OT but feeling like just a teeeeeny bit less of a newbie cos when I saw the title and your name, I just knew what it would be it's fab to see one in bright colours, rather than a dingy old one in a textile book. Do you think theirs would have been this bright? I guess so! It's just amazing to imagine.
