Anyone had good experience with growing cherries against a wall? We have one bit of south facing wall and one bit west facing and v sheltered. I want to try apricot on one as I love them. Then sometimes think want to try cherries most. Other times want figs more. Vicar next door has huge fig tree with fruit so assume they will work here. But cherry jam, puddings etc are very nice....

If you just had this one space for one 'exotic' thing, which would you do?

Sorry to hear about your dad, Tahir.

If you go for an apricot, you are better putting up some sort of temporary shelter over it so that you can cover it in case of late frosts. Even on the Isle of Wight apricots aren't fully reliable. They had a fantastic crop last year, but the frost got most of it this year.

Is there enough room for an apricot on the south facing wall and a cherry on the west facing? You could then have both.

We're very frosty round here but apricots have always done well for us, 1st crop failure this year.

It would depend when the frost comes. Think this year they were rather late and coincided with the apricot flowers. The grower told me it was late frost that caused the problem this year anyway.
