Im going to look an allotment tomorrow been offered 10 or 15 poles its only 50p per pole seems very good deal even if I put a few apples up one end. Ive been told that it has been ploughed and harrowed ready to go. ive got at least 1 day a week spare for gardening i used to help at a community allotment and am going to mark out beds with paths covered in woodshavings so i don't have to dig.

i think the larger area sounds good am i being over ambitious?

Checkout that you are allowed to grow fruit trees.

As our local council allotments prohibit growing fruit trees, as its due to the amount of 'clearing' of the allotment ready for the next person.

Its worth a very vague question.

I would always go for the larger plot, as you could always keep part of it fallow.

What's a pole in this context?

Five and a half yards. So 5.5 x 5.5 yards.

I'd go with the smaller plot. I reckon you'll get more out of a smaller area that you can really keep on top of than a larger area that's getting away from you. Plus you may well lose the whole lot if they decide that you're not managing it properly.

That isn't very much time especially if that day turns out to be raining hard etc or you have to go somewhere else some reason. I'd go for the smaller one.

What Green Rosie said.

I would think that one day a week, by the next week you might be drowning in weeds, or something may have gone to waste.
