You know when you do something because it needs to be done? Yet at the same time, all the time you’re doing it, you’re dreading it because you know somehow deep down somewhere it’s going to cause more hassle than enough even though it’s supposed to be beneficial?

Well… I deleted a lot of old/applications/etc. software off my pc last night. It had become slower and slower… the stuff I removed was all listed a rarely used and last used in 2006 or 2009 – so nothing one would assume would have drastic effects on the over all daily operation…

So could someone please explain what I have done/removed/not done because currently instead of scrolling up and down the screen seamlessly the screen refreshes in a rolling motion down the screen preventing scrolling taking place as every time I move the mouse the screen visually refreshes – Ta awfully…

It’s slowly driving me insane and I fear talking loudly at it and swearing isn’t having any desired affect.

Oily One suggests that it is more likely to be processor or graphics card issue.
There is an option somewhere for smooth scrolling somewhere in the mouse controls, but he hasn't done anything with that for a while.

Hope that helps, or at least someone else who knows a bit more will happen along

Start -> control panel -> mouse

You might find settings in there.

Thank you both, I've looked at that but nothing changed... it only happens on internet pages not on pages such as word or excel

There is a cure for all Windows problems. However, the response that such a simple FREE and permanent solution gets would make the King of the Trolls green with envy.

You can even try it out without affecting your PC in any way using a "Live CD" or a bootable USB stick.

You dump that crock of ordure and install Linux. You'll be able to access several sites that will provide (free) technical advice (Its been years since I've had any problems). You'll be able to experience an amazing level of smugness whenever the word "virus" is mentioned.

Your system won't slow down over time. You needn't reboot. You'll never have to "defrag". You won't need to go looking for "drivers".

I first installed it about 8 years ago and have never looked back.

Hmmm. See the problem. My wife has blonde streaks (admittedly for fun) and she uses a Macbook. (The main attractions were to do with cost and appearance.)

I second the "try another browser" approach - sounds like something has gone "wrong" with your browser

As I said, I've already tried it, and switched the whole machine on and off several times, taken all the leads out and reconnected it, deleted the screen software and re-installed it ... and it still does it.

I've even thought about digging out the older PC, installing an OS and firing that up and running that one instead I seem to recall it's a bigger dooberyferkin (yes it is a technical term for those in the know ) - I'm just not sure the fragile sanity I cling too would survive it

Do you have scroll lock locked on? Or gunk in your mouse?? Try unplugging your mouse. And cleaning under the keys on your keyboard.

Sorry hadn't picked up on the two browsers thing. Just because it doesn't do it in other apps you see!!

No worries nats - it is easily done
No scroll lock on

I'll go fiddle with the mouse a bit see if that helps

I've had something like this but I can't remember what I did to correct it . Have you tried uninstalling the mouse driver and re installing it....................

Just had a quick google and it could be something to do with the video drivers. If you have a look in Device Manager it might tell you

Force a Windows update to see if any device drivers are missing. Also go got device manager fro the control panel and look for any question marks against either the mouse or video driver.
