Going to try a date and walnut one today.

Can you let me know how you get on please Jamanda - that's one of my favourite cakes and wondered if I could make it with a herman.

I made a glace cherry, chocolate chip and pecan nut one. Very sweet but very nice too.

I'm very pleased with it FB! I used the basic recipe at the top of this thread, but left out the raisins and added a cup each of chopped dates and walnuts. I used moscavado sugar and two teaspoons of ginger in place of cinamon. I grated the apple to make it more integrated, but I think it makes the cake nice and moist.

I made it as two loaves rather than one big round cake.

You can add almost anything you want to Herman can't you. I add whatever needs using up (this sums up my cooking).

Useful thread, reminds me to give them a stir.

I've added many things so far. How's the non-sweet offspring doing?

Thanks Jamanda That was what I was hoping to hear. No guesses as to what I will be having for Sunday pudding.

It's still happily bubbling but I haven't had the chance to try it out yet. I have reduced the sugar down a lot though and gradually added both wholewheat and strong flour. It had to be moved into a larger bowl as it was trying to escape it's cereal bowl.

Mines in a huge big pottery fruit bowl. I re-bowl. wash the bowl and put it back every so often. Herman hygeine!
