Think its a mixture of both cost and convenience Rob, supermarkets do offer a great variety of foods,I tend to go core shopping at a supermarket, and markets/farmers markets/delis etc for those specialist foods and treats unavailable in supermarkets, eg wild boar or rabbit.

I also use different supermarkets for different things, being Aldi, Tesco and Asda.

I am a mingebag, but like food.

I drive past one or another village butcher most days - that's convenient.

Parking a 6.5m long truck on the far side of the supermarket car park is not.

I did say most people - as the vast majority of folks never buy from farmers markets or direct from producers. Not even that big of a proportion regularly buy from independants.

BOGOFS are free, free to the supermarket who say to the company producing the product, we're doing a deal so our customers think we care and you are paying for it. If they don't like it, the supermarket replaces their product with someone else's.

Have I mentioned that if something is cheap it's only because someone else is paying? It's not just people in the majority world that get screwed over you know

Maybe next time you buy a BOGOF of something you like and congratulate yourself on having saved some money, you may like to think that if the company that makes the product you are normally happy to pay x for can't keep going because it doesn't make any money due to having to keep the supermarkets happy, you will have contributed to its demise by your purchasing habits.
