Hallo,

I saw this fungi in a tree, can anyone identify it for me please?
I've included a picture of the tree leaves.

Thank you!

Thanks!

Looks like it could be a baby Chicken of the woods to me. Good find!

Thank you!

Most fungi seem to be stem and cap, but this is the first one I've seen that looks slug-like. I thought it was a by product of sap rising,

I saw these walnut trees on 10th April ( pix posted below) after a heavy rainfall. They had been pruned at the wrong time of year - I was told - one is dead the other living. The water was running out like a leaky tap. The orange stuff ( I honestly thought someone had been chucking creme eggs at them when I first saw them! ) made me think the yellow stuff was some sort of by product.

Thanks again.

Walnuts bleed heavily if you prune them in spring, sometimes to death

Four days later and Baby Chicken in the Wood has grown!

Indian Ringed Parakeets are nesting about eight feet up the tree directly opposite this. I don't know if they caused the damage to it.

Does anyone know the origin of the name, please?

Thanks again.

I wonder if the parakeets are eating it.

Here's one I found today (The bottom layer is currently incoporated in a lasagne in which is in the oven )

That looks a different fungus from my pictures Jamanda. Mine doesn't look like that, are they different types of babychickeninthewood?

Yours looks like a bracket fungus. Mine looks like a marshmallow! Mine is also growing. On the side of the same tree, there is another growth.

The one previously photographed (above) is 10 inches long and 3 - 4 inches wide. The new growth is 3 inches long and 1 inch wide. But again, looks like a marshmallow and not a bracket fungus.

I think it is going to take over the tree.

By baby, I meant immature, before the shelves had started to develop. I was going by the bright yellow colour.

It could be something else, but I don't know what I'm afraid.

if you can go back daily to where your baby cotw is, you'll see how quickly it changes... round these parts about 3 days from baby yellow blob to brackets...
none round here yet, but we've been feasting on St Georges best year for a long while... mental note to self: get more sherry...
