I am getting rid of the Breville we have. It is quite old but works perfectly well. It's major drawback is that it is impossible to clean properly.

I like toasted sandwiches and would eat them more often but for that serious flaw. Which one would you recommend I replaced it with?

I've had these in the past. They are fab, you can stick them in the dishwasher and you don't have to find room to store an appliance. (Assuming you have a toaster.)

we've got a pannini maker like this

The hard working link fairy strikes again

flat cooking plates make for easy cleaning.

also make great toasted sarnies on the rayburn hot plate - but that might be an extravagant purchase just for toasted sarnies

What is the matter with you people? Not everybody has an 85 foot wide monitor. It's not that flippin' difficult to use a couple of square brackets.

Not an extravagant purchase as we've got a rayburn. What do you do, just stick them on it?

I have got those bags somewhere but they are not quite the same.

My daughter makes them on her Aga, I guess just like the Rayburn way. With this sort of thing. https://www.agacookshop.co.uk/recipes/starter/aga-toast.html

Toasties were pretty much part of her staple diet when she first moved in, until she got her head round how to use the ovens

We just put the sarnie straight onto the hot end of the hot plate - turn with a slice once one side is done - they are not pressed like sandwich toasters do, but they are toasty and melty. I guess where on the plate you toast might depend on how hot you keep your rayburn.

Interesting concept, us having some control over the heat of the rayburn.

Thank you, I will try this for lunch tomorrow.

if you have a bakestone, you could heat that first and whack that on top to cook both sides at once?

I have a kind of grid thing for barbecues which might work. If it makes a good toastie I will buy one of the proper ones although I think they are for aga's only and round not rectangular.

The new Brevilles are a bit easier to clean than the old ones. The plates are removable so you can get them into the sink and scrub them.

we use the aga rack on our rayburn they seem to turn our right.

but when the rayburn is out we use a sandwich press they also toast wraps etc so are less limiting than the old sandwich toasters.
