Friday night on BBC2.

Just got round to watching the first episode about very grand gardens (eg Vaux-le-Vicomte, Versailles) - lots of grandeur, some interesting history and politics, and a rather lovely 2CV!

Episode 2 (Fri 8th Feb) looks to be about potagers and French allotments.

The 2CV was rather lovely wasn't it?

Enjoyed the above and very interesting but not my kind of garden, too much of a muchness.

I really wanted to like it, but the god-awful background music spoilt it for me and I only watched for about five minutes.

To be honest, that much grandeur is a bit overwhelming - but I guess that's the point, it was supposed to be a demonstration of power and wealth (not that that helped the owner of Vaux-le-Vicomte!)

And, hopefully, it keeps that awful bloke overseas.

Yeah, but he hasn't dented your car with his inept low speed manoeuvres.

Thanks for that robkb. I have a bit of a fetish about French potagers, allotments and the like. I drive OH potty every time we're in France by wanting to peer over fences and through hedges to see what's growing and how they manage the soil and weeds. I quite like Monty too.

Missed the new episode last night... but will catch on iplayer.

Amused that it wasn't all sun - they filmed on in some fantastic rain at one point in the first episode.

Still - it's lovely to watch programmes with a bit of greenery showing through. All seems brown and muddy outside here... (a bit like Bodger's new orchard )
