I made this today and had to share the recipe - don't be put off by the less usual ingredients - it works really well.

Although it says that it makes one extra large loaf, the amount given is enough for two 2lb loaf tins, which is what I did.

The liquid content shouldn't all be added at once though - I had to add a bit more flour to mine.

Thanks catbaffler,
I made one big round loaf yesterday and its lovely, unusual and very tasty.
I'll make this again but next time in 2 loaf tins I think.

Cor - I bet that was a whopping loaf! There again, if you're baking for a family I daresay it wouldn't last that long - certainly wouldn't have when my boys were living at home.

I'm about to defrost my second one - the first one kept me in sandwiches all week; by Friday it was beginning to get a bit on the dry side but still good with cream cheese and herbs.

I'm glad you liked it too - I'm definitely going to make it again, although I might use slightly less cocoa and a lot more caraway seeds - I'd forgotten how much i liked them

I've now put one half in the freezer, my boys don't like it, they think its too weird although the youngest hasn't even tried it, didn't dare.
I agree about the caraway seeds, i'm going to put a lot more in the next one I make too.

That's a shame - don't know what they're missing!

I was very lucky with my kids - they were subjected to all manner of concoctions but manfully (and occasionally quite heroically) tried all of them, bless 'em! They were pretty forthright in proffering constructive feedback too, mind you - although I only recall the word "vile" being used once and, in case you were wondering, that was regarding my attempt at cashew cream, when one of them had decided to be vegan - thankfully he wasn't living at home by that time and the phase didn't last too long... Now he too enjoys experimenting with taste - as a "mixologist" (that word cracks me up!) in a cocktail bar!
