well, as the title says

"and finally".........(drum roll, Debbie Magee at my side...)

I have chickens.....it's only taken several years, a divorce, & the realisation that at 48 years old, I can make my own decisions without the say-so of someone else

& they're better than watching telly

I can't be alone in thinking this, can I ?!

Thank you CIG & Nell

I've not been able to drag myself away much so far.....I got them home at 11.30 our time, & have spent most of the time since then, I have to say, in awe....very peculiar feeling, but I can't stop smiling

I really miss my chooks but part of my new resolve now I've got past the last few years and discovered my apathy was down to a Vit B12 defiency and not just me being lazy, is to get the garden sorted and a secure run built for them, so I can have some more

There is nothing like getting your first egg

Bloke said we may have our first egg tomorrow........I may not be able to sleep if I remind myself of that tonight

Loads of projects this year, including getting my veg garden back under way, building of a tractor shed (tractor being another benefit of being divorced), & working on the house...only obstacle is that all this takes money

I may have to rob a building society, looks like the only way

I know that feeling far too well - it's why my hallway still hasn't been decorated after 3 years!

Yey - congratulations on your first egg! When I got our first one I didn't want to cook it cause it seemed such a special moment! But we waited until we got a few more and had eggs benedict with asparagus and parma ham.... ah, heaven! And we toasted the hens (not literally - with something alcholic) who provided them for us before we ate.

So how are you going to cook it?

Oh yeah, those "first egg" moments.....

should I put together a small album of photos, I wonder?

this is how I imagine it starting, & soon I'd have 200 hens of varying shapes & sizes, none of whom will ever see the inside of the oven because they'll all have names & little marks on the door frame as they grow,

I need to lie down

They are a big distraction. Particularly when they see a fly they want to eat, or the noises they make if they find a worm.

One of my favourite tricks - emptying the gecko vivarium outside, and the chickens spotting an errant live cricket
