I have an allotment plot on my university campus that has been neglected due to work commitments. It currently only has a few elephant garlic bulbs and some Jerusalem artichokes on it.

My issue is that i don't know what to put there because I am likely to be away between June and January. would my main option be some quick turn over salad leaf or is there other things that would work? either a long growing season (now - June -> January+) or short one (between seed delivery and June).

Thanks for any help and ideas.

Beetroot would work well. You can pick it young or much older.

Leeks would also be good and spring onions.

brassicas? purple sprouting brocolli, spring cabbage, late varieties of leek etc? carrots and roots store well in the ground, especially with a bit of cover.

Seems a shame - is there anyone you could share it with?

we are meant to share, but its been open to be used since November and I've not heard anything from the rest of the people. I dug it over and removed weeds ect on my own.
