doesn't even grow weeds, then perhaps you might like to try straw bale gardening.

Sound good? Have you ever done this or something similar? Does it intrigue you? Should I have made this a poll?

yep ,it works well ,a bit of compost to get the plant started and liquid feed regularly during growth

it will also make excellent soil in a few seasons

very good for cucumbers and pumpkins

I've known about this technique for many years, but have never actually tried it. I think I might just get round to it this year! I've done all the digging I ever want to, and find that forking up the crops, lots of mulching, and a bit of raking at sowing time, are really all the cultivation that the ground needs. Straw bale growing is just another form of no dig gardening in my book.

"There's no such thing as bad soil, just bad gardeners"

Even a poor rocky soil can grow something, in such cases one has to find crops suitable for the soil instead of planting just anything.
