ideas please for stuff that can be made into something palatable quite easily. Any time of the year.

Sloe vodka/gin & elderflower wine already covered (so you cant say these) .

A beer kit. That's how I got started.

Or try the 'Easy Cider' article recipe.

Turbo cider or ginger beer and let it ferment out a lot longer than you would for the pop.
Also mead is an absolute doddle but its best matured for at least a couple of years.

Not doing cider as Im already running a cider making event later in the year. beer is not a hedgerow wine....

Come on.....nettle beer etc.

Is nettle beer actually nice? Would you drink a whole glass of it?
Dandelion wine? What exactly does it taste like?

Elderberry wine - Ive heard this is quite nice, but never made/tried any.....

Nettle wine is lovely. And Gil's recipe's really are as simple as it comes.

Dandelion wine is OK, but seriously NOT worth the faff of collecting the flower heads and removing the bitter green bits.

At this time of year, do give my Nettle wine recipe a try - there are detailed instructions in the article. It is green, slightly lemony, fresh. Tastes nothing like nettles cooked as a vegetable.

Or make a nettle version of that not-very-alcoholic elderflower fizz that folk make. I reckon that would be nice. Might give it a go myself, when the nettles come through (our seasons are way behind up here).

Elderberry wine can take a long time to mature into something drinkable. Mellow it out by using half elderberries half blackberries.

Lorraine - go and pick something you would like to make from the various wine recipes in the Articles section of Downsizer, and just come back here and ask any questions you might have.

Okay - I have 12 empty demijohns looking for something to do.

Should I just use a white wine yeast with them all?

Yes, a white wine yeast will be fine for any.

I just use a general wine yeast for most wines.

Potato wine is surprisingly easy, and totally delicious (& very strong) and drinkable after 9 months!

Okay.....what about rhubarb wine? Sounds disgusting, but does it taste good?
