I'm trying to find a super cheap solution to replace 6 awful strip lights with 6 extra large pendant lights for the auditorium space in my new premises. You can imagine that only super huge lights will do, we're not talking house sized.
Everything I look at it stupidly expensive and as we are on a very tight budget, I wondered about making them? Not quite sure how or what to do so I'm hoping for some inspiration from you lovely creatives. Preferably with a photo link. Either that or a link to some super cheap shades/fittings. :0)

imho it will be really hard to get as much light for as little electricity from anything else. What don't you like about your current ones? Are they actually bare and visible or is it their fittings/"diffusers" you don't like? I have to admit I've seen some pretty horrible fittings.
Some supermarkets (with high ceilings) seem to use what looks like high pressure sodium lights in big pendant fittings, loads of light and, I believe, quite efficient, but they look pretty awful, and I suspect that the managers rely on people not looking up!
IKEA do some ridiculously large lights, my favourite is based on a dandelion seed head. Not sure how much light they actually give, or how efficient they are. Ikea lights generally definitely worth a look.

Not sure if this link may be of use?

Extra drop can be made by replacing the cord with a longer piece, and a shade may hide the lost bulb in a huge void syndrome, until you get used to it.
