I've given up on the idea of spinning for the time being as haven't got any better and never seem to have any time to go the local spinners group meetings. However, I do still want to be able to knit myself something from my own wool. Does anyone know anywhere/anybody you'd do a couple of fleeces and ideas of how much it might cost? I'm not in a hurry but would like to have a plan....

My friend Freyalyn gets fleeces carded for her: I'm guessing the same place spins as well, however I think it's in Yorkshire. I can ask.

There's Griffiths Mill in Derbyshire, but they haven't replied to my email yet and I've not got round to phoning them. Halifax Mill in Yorkshire said I didn't have enough fleece for them. It was them that recommended Griffiths.

I've got four, gave the others away. I think four might be a bit on the small side, numbers wise. if only I'd taken to spinning like a duck to water instead of a duck to a bicycle.... Or something equally rubbish.

Griffiths did the two fleeces for Nat's wedding dress, it wasn't cheap, mind.

You could try asking your local spinning group if anyone there was interested. It wouldn't be worth their while in terms of payment by the hour of course, but you might find someone who would do the job for you by hand if you were willing to pay them a reasonable amount.

Getting it spun commercially will produce a more even yarn and is more economically viable though.

offhand I think most of the commerical mills want 25kg of fleece to work with or there will be a big premium payment involved.

If you didn't manage to get fleece spun the Halifax Spinning Mill process small amounts of fleece, from 1kg according to their website https://www.halifaxspinningcompany.co.uk/index.html
