I love refried beans All I do is fry some chopped onions in a generous glug of oil, get the oil reasonably hot then add the cooked beans and pound them a bit with a potato masher. I like them fairly dry but if you want wetter you can add some of the cooking liquor from boiling the beans, or hot water.

sometimes I add chilli at the onion stage - but mostly not as usually we are having this to go with something spicy. If it was to be the star of the show, I would probably add chilli I usually add a little salt at the end.

similar but just add a couple of tins of red kidney beans and mash. It needs loads of seasoning though, loads.

the onions and spices need a caramelizing cook before the beans go in
