I normally grow a dozen courgette plants and have good heavy crops using F1 seeds. Each year one or two plants are stunted, small leaves, small stalks and fruit but this year 90% of the plants are stunted, I know its not a bad batch of seeds as I have grown two varieties (yellow & green fruit) so the chances of two bad batches are remote. The seeds were germinated and grown on in 3" pots in a greenhouse before planting out. The soil was well prepared with a slow release fertiliser - the same bag as was used last year. Any tips on what I`m doing wrong? Thanks all.

Mine are slw in taking off because when i planted them out the temp dropped at the end of the week and they werent hardned off.

I've had some success when reviving poor growing plants by taking off all the fruit (however small and unformed) - it seems to give the plants a bit of a breather so the leaves can grow again.

I have now taken off all then fruits and also given them some liquid tomato feed so will see how things go.

Lots of my veg is slow this year - we went form cold wet Spring to warm dry Summer and I think everything is sulking. I am sure it will all catch up.

No trees nearby or aphids. I been giving it more thought and after germination I put them out without hardening them off and so I `m wondering if this has caused the spindly growth. The pumpkin and Squash seem ok though and they went out the same time.
