Ours just didn`t do this year.Old seed I think.
So,is there any reason why they can`t be grown later in the year?

They are not the fastest growing crop in the veg plot. The old advice was to sow as early as poss. For better germination, most of us delay until April. Always use fresh seed.

If you've got a bare patch and some viable seed, I'd give it a try, purely as an experiment. Doubt if they'd be bigger than a baby carrot by December.

And they're biennials, so however big or small they get before winter, next spring they'll start flowering probably before they get any bigger.

Mine didn't germinate in the ground either and I ended up sowing some in pots. That worked ok, they are now planted out and looking good.

Glazed baby parsnips with Christmas/Midwinter Festivity Of Your Choice would be good though. And anyone selling baby snips at that point's going to charge a fortune.

Parsnip seeds are only good in the first year, no point sowing them after that.
