|
Hello! Nice to be back, still not great browsing from my phone, but I'll cope, I'm back on the PC a bit more these days
We are looking to move back North to get a bit of land and more house space to accommodate our Willow's growing needs, our 3-bed in Hampshire just isn't big enough in the long run for through-floor lifts, hoists and all that extra equipment. And for the same approximate price of our house, we can have a house with a little land in Derbyshire/Staffordshire/South Yorkshire, which is where we are looking at the moment, though nowhere is out of the question, it's about being commutable to work for HT.
Happytechie needs to find work first, I've been researching areas who have decent provision for disabled children, good special schools have been my focus because a good school will ensure other therapists are on the ball.
Arthur is going to have a year off school, if that works for us all then we will carry on and home school permanently.
It's a big scary thing to do, we've lived in Hampshire/Surrey our whole adult lives since University, about 16 years, but it feels right, especially while the kids are young (5 and 3).
I'm addicted to property websites at the moment, not that I can do anything until employment is sorted!
I've also got a little idea about setting up a retreat for families with disabled children, on the land, an accessible yurt (with hoists), little accessible playground and a few other bits. Non-profit.
I'm also trying to get our house in order, making my way through each room, gutting it out, sanding, painting, making good, before getting an estate agent round to value it, so I'm going on other houses in the area, of which there aren't many, there's a big shortage of houses like ours, they fly off the market at silly prices.
Anyway, nice to be back now my focus in life isn't on nappies and nipples. Finally, the dream of actually downsizing seems within our reach and it's bloody exciting! |

best wishes for a good move,
derbyshire is nice but a bit expensive, south yorks is quite mixed with some very nice parts and surprisingly good health care.i dont know much about staffs.
the railway engineers based in york are often looking for it skills but york is quite expensive and health care is a bit patchy.
west yorks has the advantage of being near leeds and manchester, middle priced for house with a bit of land since the horsey market is less than it was.the best bits can have rather wild weather. |

*Always* aim to make a profit. You can plough it back into extra facilities/subsidies for less-well-off clients or whatever. |

Indeed. Profit is one of the costs of doing business. |

Hi, we are in the same position at the moment, although looking in our local area rather than further afield. We are doing finishing touches to our current place ready to get the estate agents in and obsessively checking right move for new properties on the market with a few acres! Good luck with the search. |

Thanks guys!
Some great info there too, will look into the DWP jobs for ht, Jo, he's a software development manager.
Blackpool feels too far North, bit too close to my family in r Lakes really There's good and bad to that! |

We're probably looking at the same properties
Good luck in your search, sounds like you're a bit further ahead than us. |
