i nailed a slow sinc at a 1/25s with the 100 to 400 lens of tt making coffee, no extra light etc, nice

it worked , however i was only testing to see if the lens was chatting with the camera

tis nice for birds, manual or at the least manual and a focus spot with a set distance to aim for is good

the full auto stuff can be too clever and slow
using it almost like a 35mm is effective
i am well happy with it and still learning

not bad for bird snaps but i do need to work on a proper replacement for the improvised fore stock under the lens, tis a heavy beast compared to owt i have used before

on a very positive theme, it survived the dog tripping me up with no more than a new cover filter for the medium multi fl lens

i got the 2 battery strap on for it which is ace with the big lens for pulling the balance back, using it portrait, lv charging etc
downside it only just fits in the biggest case with the mid lens on

stripped for small and tidy this camera is light for the abilities it has.
if i put a classic fixed 50mm on it would be very portable
the made for it gp lens is pretty good for general purposes, far away/very small would be an engineering and optics matter

the converter ring for a 5 pin to a 7 pin system needs a bit of work or i need to replace the older MK1 with a modern MK2 and no ring slap a pap time ?

i just saw the slap a pap and thought naughty

after a few tries with cheese plates and handles and suchlike, i am now minded to take a saw, drill, chisel, knife and abrasives to the stock of a less than perfect crossbow

my thinking is the lens is fixed, the camera is fixed(ie no stress on the 5 to 7 point conversion ring) and i get to use it like a krinkov

might be rather nice for papping wildlife if it is short, stable and balanced

if the wood prototype works it might be time to think about a production version

the political paps might take casualties

but sparrows etc dont have minders

i have seen such things ages ago, but they were far too cumbersome to be useful

i know cameras have a fairly small variety of mount specs, once those are attached to a cheese plate the potential is increased a lot

guns have 3 basic attachments, slotted grooves, weaver or picawhotsit rails(some have pegs as well)

a camera would be better with a rail fitting than a bolthole

all of that mentioned, my beast does seem to be going a bit mad max

i am warming to it again, there is no need of 85m combo snaps unless i need them

super quick at 30m ish is far more useful

best jpeg seems ok for what i need at the mo

the assorted strap ons are nice, the 2 battery and LV integrated charging thing is nice
it lasts a big memory card, balances the GP lens and can be plugged into a usb from any power supply

if i can sort it , it can do continuos power via a usb cable, useful for set it up and a snap a minute or whatever

re wild life, me and a chum did "socialising photos" a while ago

we got to understand film eventually, this sort of kit would be ace for capture the moment stuff, even if that is the exploding petrol tank of a car in a bonfire with a "model" in a ballgown:lol:

fire is a beast to photograph convincingly, especially if the other elements of the snap need including

i recon to get a convincing photo of the person and the fire is a perfect "great whatsit photoff"sort of task

back to now

my carry cases are many and do not always fit well or safely in any bag i have got
i have more cases than things and more things than cases

i need to create a portable system that protects the kit , is easy to carry off road, and has space for "comfort goods"

the 50 litre multi compartment assault pack i ordered seems a place to start for packaging
i have plenty of good padding and waterproof bags etc, most of the kit fits in camera bag stuff which is a start

delicates inside, less delicate in good packaging outside might work
if i put the two heads for the tripod in the bag the legs can strap on wif few balance issues , maybe

hard case is fine if you go by car or whatever, not so much fun on a riverbank or mountain

When we used to do quite a lot of photography we had a rucksack type carrying bag. Far more convenient.

I have one of those from Lowe Alpine. It's brilliant - carries a lot of gear, doesn't weigh much (when empty, obvs) and has a deployable, waterproof cover. My favourite feature is that it opens at the back, so pickpocketing is impossible, and the opening allows you to take your arms out of the arm loops, swing it around on the waist belt, open the back and then you have the rucksack horizontally in front of you with all the camera bits accessible. Very well-though out!

i await "gary" the postman, let you know if and when it lands

molle seemed a good direction, separate the "house", picanik etc from camera kit and carry both or just the camera stuff on one set of straps might be convenient

i can get house down to 5 litres most of the year, picanik size depends on where i might go but is never very huge unless there is no water.
that leaves about 40 litres for padding and camera gear

the sky was doing clear to cloud etc on a 30 second cycle either i need to find a suits both setting, set for one and wait which reduces opportunities to pap wee critters but can be effective, or learn to twiddle stuff instinctively and fast while framing up on an invertebrate in flight/feeding the controls are nice, with practice i might be able to adjust 2 or 3 things fast enough

a few years later......

the R is splendid
as are the general purpose and macro lenses, the big lens is nice if a bit physical and needs a 5 point to 7 point converter ring(old canon glass to new canon body, lot of it about etc) when i spot a "slightly used"mk2 at a decent price i can retire the converter ring and let the auto focus and better stabilization play as well as the camera could, but the new has down points as well such as even heavier

the speedlight has plenty of options, but i tend to use it on auto as it talks to the camera and lens, for wildlife it seems rude,

it has a few dinks but seems robust(unlike some makes) and survived a drop which broke the filter with no lens or internal damage(thanks dog)

i recon it is better at what it can do than the ways i am at asking it so far

not played properly with the video yet

overall i am very happy with how it performs so far

ditto the pooter and photoshop, modern photoshop is splendid compared to say CS3 on a home built steamer with a clocked chip and extra fans

i really should play with the video, the reason i stopped making movies was that the images were either too good for my arty stuff or too low quality to be much use above a dog playing in a field or opening a christmas carrot it claims 5k quality, i have seen them used by TV folk as a "portable" video camera, i will give it a try for a bathwatch episode

this should be easy

sun hat for a 30mm focal / 52 mm front hole, expensive lens

it really isn't

the best so far, is no lens cap, no change of filter, no reversing travel sun hat and loads of faff and risk to a lens trying to pap minibeasts

i have to set up clean, take the snaps and hope it's clean afterwards, not ideal for the real and dirty world

burn, to whatever state, be it picture or chip vs naked in a gritty hostile world with no choice of front end filter
neither are ideal

research is required
