I am surprised at that Dpack, but I suppose if they are healthy and that old, they must cope with it well. Perhaps they are more able to survive it when they are dormant, or may be 'bred' more for that environment.

Looking good Jema.

Need 48 hours for the mortar to see, then cover the concrete with earth and finally deck things.
I will do another normal postcrete post to go with these two.

they do look like rather solid footings that should stabilise that bit as well as giving an anchor to the metpost mountings

Mostly rained Friday, but plodding on. Hopefully finished in a few clear hours, or rather taken to the next point.
Been a debate on whether to take the deck leftward or to build more raised beds, currently beds are winning the argument.
Impact wrench managed 7 out of 8 coach screws at 50x martin speed, the 8th showed it could manage less than 1 martin strength.

Looks good. Sounds as if the impact wrench is good for speed, but perhaps Martin needs to do the difficult bits.

that looks fairly strong, well done.

re the coach screw thing even when dpack could have ripped the head off a turkish wrestler he used to oil coach screws to make driving them in easier

even then a huge wrench and socket was needed sometimes

I figure enough decking board left for 6 or 7 more, which fits with easy posting and still being usefully wide. So may as well get that done.

New post, the digging of which put a dent in the rat population. Not pleasant.
Contemplating pairing it with another biggish concrete filled hole.

The last post of the year. It's an esoteric mix of postcrete posts, posts mounted on concrete plinths and posts in a lot of concrete, but then it's an interesting landscape.
I'm pretty sure it's not going to subside any time soon.

need to give it a bit of time to set, then the last decking for now,

well done

re rats i got 2 in 2 days and am still vigilant, did any of your ones escape immediate doom?

yes or no, whichever it was a few quid on a fenn and bait it in a box with long life bait, check with a mirror on a stick to see if it needs resetting etc

It was a nest of new born, damage from the post digger followed up with drowning the tunnels.

that will work and removed quite a few next gen ones, so far mine are large adult+ a couple of "teenagers"

at least i got those before they multiplied

i often add chilli to the buckets of water for tunnels to reduce their desire to reoccupy when the tide goes out
