Hello Ken, welcome to the site.

I know there are a few people who keep bantams here, I myself have only seen bantams once and they struck me as not much chunkier than a healthy wood pigeon! I believe there is a guide that they are about 1/4 the size of the large breed but please don't go constructing a building on that advice!

This site is about a specific bantam breed but it may be a good starting point for you - this is the housing section: https://www.pekinbantams.com/housing.asp with several articles including a couple of designs for housing.

Whereabouts are you Ken? I would say the best thing of all would be to find a supplier you like and have a look at their birds so that you know which ones you're likely to be bringing home, and at the same time the breeder will be able to give you some suggestions as well.

Someone here might even be able to recommend a breeder and I know one or two people often have rare breeds for sale.

The people out at Evesham have Bantams, The Domestic Fowl & Honeybourne Rare Breeds 01386 833083. Its not too long a drive and lovely countryside.
Then there the Wernlas Collection, Shropshire 01584 856318. A bit further to go but scenery to die for.
Gobbets rare breeds have some but i shall have to find the phone number, might be in Yellow Pages!
Its always worth a call because sometimes you have to order a bird, they aren't always old enough.
Oh and you could try Sandwell Valley Farm, they have a web site and they used to have Chickens, and then there is Acton Scott farm , again Shropshire and they have a web site although they are not much cop answering E mails.
Hope this helps, when i get home i might have a few more numbers for you.

I buy my chicken feed from an agricultural supplies place - check your Yellow Pages for the closest one. You can pay between £6.50 and £9 for a 25 kg bag of layers' pellets, depending on whether you want organic feed or not. I suspect the prices would be cheaper than a petshop.

Just what Judith said. Two big suppliers are Allen and Page and Marriages, I think both do organic ranges, but Allen and Page also does 5kg bags of a vegetarian GM free one. Both suppliers (possibly on their sites) should be able to tell you a local stockist.

With bantams you may find that a 25kg bag is too much for you to use before it's BBE date. That may not be a problem but you may want to consider smaller bags or sharing if you can find a fellow keeper nearby.

Its the opposite side to you, think Wales but not so far, nearly bromsgrove, to the left of halesowen on the road between B/ham And Kidderminster A38. Unfortunatly it's not in the A to Z, but it would be below 126 / 127 and to the left of 142 /143. Bet you could find it with your eyes closed now
