Do any of you buy your seed supplies and things like that from ebay or is it best to be avoided? The reason i ask is that they seem to have a lot more range than my local supplier and Im an ebay freak anyway so wondered if anybody has had any problems with them not growing etc, well the quality of them really...

Hx

PS.. another stupid question which might just highlight my "dumbness" today.... If I bought seeds from America would they still germinate after going through all that hassle, i.e. the weather conditions on the plane etc or am i being COMPLETELY stupid? please excuse me if i am.

I've never bought seeds on ebay, but I buy a lot online. Have a look through the links section and you'll see some tremendous suppliers (I personally use Nickys Nursery a lot).

As for buying seeds from the States, I can't see why it ought to be a problem. Are there any legal issues regarding seed imports?

Ive bought loads of seeds from ebay and they seem to be fine but this is my first year of 'grow your own' so the stuff ive planted so far hasnt germinated. Theones that ive bought there have been well packaged, contain instructions and the quality looks good to my untrained eye.I bought some friut treees (the mini patio variety) and they seem to be doing well on some large pots on he bedroom windowsil.
I suppose the trouble with the ebay seeds is there is no regular supply in most cases, it seems they are one off deals. Ive also bought seeds from Nicky's nursery and the service is great - really friendly people who ddint make me feel stupid cos im new to gardening

some seeds are illegal to import to the UK and some require a phytosanitary certificate. If you buy from a seed specialist in the USA they should know what's what, if not then check with DEFRA. Any seeds should germinate but they may not do so when we expect them to (more of a problem with Australian seeds due to the reversed seasons). All I can say is give it a try, cuold be very rewarding
