(looking at the fatty acids in childhood thread)

What do you do daily/regularly that you think is a healthy food tip for other downsizers to try? The obvious one is making and growing your own food, but what about quick fixes anyone could walk out and do tomorrow, without having to buy in a shed load of equipment or learn skills?

I drink a lot of water (no coke or anything) and eat a lot of (home made) yoghurt.

This isn't about being holier than thou - that's about the extent of my health tips above so I for one have lots to pick up!

Currently we've been eating a lot of Tunnocks Teacakes.

No particular health tips here, we just try and eat well and cook fresh mostly.

Tunnocks Teacakes - now you are talking, Tahir.

Do they make those caramel wafers? I used to love those when I was a kid (lying - still do )

Sorry, Bugs, I'm not helping, am I?

and laughter!

I go with the water - there is 60 grams of sugar in one of those 500ml bottles of ribena. 60 grams! That's more than I put in a weeks worth of bugs cookies, which is my only health tip or snack food, other than toast or toasted tea cakes (I'll post a recipe for these later, as thy're great!) IU find if I don't buy junk food, then I don't eat it (and its all rubbish anyway!)

If you do make cakes, slicing them up and freezing them enables you to have the odd slice, whenever, and not have to eat the whole lot at once.

Anyone do smoothies or forzen yogurt? I imgaine they're pretty healthy, and snacky. I don't have the kit.

Frozen yoghurt, yes, at least, it's frozen yoghurt with a little cream. Don't you have a handblender? You can do smoothies with those.

Mmm yep I'm partial to the odd smoothie. Grape and banana was my latest experiment. Luvverly!!!

Other than that, moderation in everything seems to be working best I was told by my doctor to go on a low fat diet for my gallstones and it made me feel crap, dry skin, dry hair, achy joints. I've gone back to normal eating of balanced meals, just cutting out the home made ice cream (sob) and using yoghurt instead of cream in my recipes, and limiting cheese, and am doing just fine and dandy.

I have just descovered hemp seeds. Crushed a loads up which was the first bit of healthiness as I did it without the use of a blender. Have been adding them to all sorts of foods also have been using barley instead of pasta recently not sure it is that much better but is a change.

There is an old japanese saying that says every time you try a new food you will add a week to your life. So much out there to be eaten I think I might live to be 300

Good lord, I'd forgotten it came with a beaker thing for blending in (I only use it to make soups usually!) We have bananas every week in our veg box, but I don't like them, and himself once found wildlife in one, and won't eat them anymore, if I whizz them he will.

At last I have an excuse to make yoghurt! If I make it with that actimel stuff, will it be actimel, or just yuck?

That's my mess booked in for the weekend then, thanks bugs!
