I have just secured enough lamb fat to have a bucket of that sitting around to match my bucket of pig fat!



...one day I will actually make some soap!!

My hubby has tried making soap from our goat fat ...it's not as easy as at first it may seem . It usually turns out more on the fatty side than the soapy side but that's because he also tried making it with home made lye. It's actually quite scientific and as in the amount of fat v alkali is quite specific and you need to know both . We had heaps of lamb fat but it's a bit smelly ;o)

apparently you can de-smell lamb fat beforehand....

I wonder how...we still have loads and there are three more lambs and a ram to do away with! We did render it in several changes of water...

maybe you just have stinky lambs then ETA: in all seriousness, grainfeeding does seem to add to the potency of the smell.
