I am looking at my composting options with 'traditional' wooden composters

I can go for either,

1. A 2 bin system, off the shelf 1220L system
2. Or a 'bespoke' 3 bin system of about the same capacity

I am thinking of basically filling one bin, then turning contents into the second & so on so forth

Thoughts anyone??

3 one to load, turn into the second and start filling the first again and then turn second into 3rd to use, 1st into 2nd and so on.

It all depends on how much material you have to compost and how long you want to leave it for - hot or cold composting?

We have two, each a square meter and manage to fill both in a year - we cold compost so as one is ready the other is nearly full and so on.

Agree with the others that it depends how much you make in a year, and how dedicated to turning and working on your compost you are. I find I need about 3 bins, as quite a lot of wood chips and shavings go into ours, so they take a while to break down.

One to be filling, then ideally turn it into a second bin then leave to compost while working on filling and turning second bin into third, by which time first should be ready to use and third bin can be turned into it.
