Last week I saw some for sale & wondered whether I could make it. I found a recipe for a Jewish version called Chrain or possibly Chrane but it seemed that you have to keep that in the fridge & I was looking for something with a longer shelf life. Can anyone help please?

There are plenty of recipes for beetroot chutney - you could just omit some of the spices and add grated horseradish root instead. Never made it, though fresh, boiled beetroot and horseradish sauce sandwiches are one of my favourites.
