Hi
I've got a nice brown winter coat which fastens with a two way zip which measures 1 metre 6 centimeters. Unfortunately it is broken and I can't find a replacement zip anywhere. Anyone have any ideas? It is still in a really good condition, would be a shame not to be able to mend it...
thanks in advance
Lucie

Would that be about 41" Sorry I don't do metric?

These come in 48" but you'd have to check it was open ended.

You can also buy continuous roll, but again it wouldn't be open ended...

What about some other fastening entirely?? Does it overlap at all?
You could use squares of velcro - rather than a long strip if it has a flap...or something like duffle coat toggles - Frog Fasteners I think is the proper name.

About 42 inches Kate, and there is no flap/overlap so only a zip will do. Did you mean to leave a link in the previous post because I can't see one. Thanks for your help.

DUH yes that would help...

OK so it fastens edge to edge??? So if you can make a tidy job of taking the broken zip out...there is no reason why you can't put a shorter one in...30" seems to be pretty much the longest open end length.

Depends if this is your BESTEST coat, or a sort of downsizer jobby that you muck out things in on a freezing day. Sometimes it's an easier mend to very neatly cut the zip out of the front without unpicking if from where it's seamed in, and put another zip in - Underneath the front edges...does that make sense?

That seems a fair price for the zip.
The zip in my winter coat broke last year and I couldn't find new one locally (never thought to look online ) so went to the repair shop and they wanted to charge me £25 to replace it. Decided that was far too much, the coat cost me £30 in a half price sale.
Fortunatley it has buttons too so I just use them now.

I've bought from this website before, but again the longest open ended I can see are 76cm -

However the zip on my daughter's new coat is longer than that, so they must be available somewhere -

Don't know if this will help I have a coat with a 51" zip that needs replacing - best I could find is 48" but that'll do me!

May not be long enough for you though - perhaps leaving the bottom open may work?

Here's the link anyway.

This is a 2 way open ended zip too - longest I have ever seen and in 3 colours.

Good luck!

Outdoor fabric shops. You will find a link on my post on downproof fabric, as I forgot to cut the site out ready to paste. What size do you need just in case I have one.
